Our Web Development Process

We think that building a Web site is like building a house in that they share several of the same steps. For both houses and web sites, there is a design process, construction, customization, and a "moving in" period.

In the design phase of a house, an architect draws up the plans that will be followed by carpenters in the construction phase. Similarly, in the design phase of a Web site a designer creates the plan that the developer will follow.

The construction phase of a house sees the builders take the floor plan and turn it into an actual building. When constructing a Web site, the developer (who is sometimes also the designer or programmer) takes the design created by the designer and turn it into an actual Web page.

While the walls are going up, skilled tradesmen come in and make the house function by adding plumbing and electricity. Likewise, as the template of a site is being created by the developer, a programmer comes in and makes the site function, adding the tools that allow the user to interact with the site.

At this point, the house or the site can be used and it's time to move in. For the house, this means bringing in furniture, appliances and other belongings. For a Web site, this is when the content gets added, finally making sure that the site tells the world what it's supposed to.

After this is complete, it's time to open them up and have all your friends come look at what you've done.
